Valbonne and it's history
Valbonne (which translates as good valley), owes it's roots to Augustin de Grimaldi, the bishop of nearby Grasse, who created the village in 1519, based on the Roman style of a central square and perpendicular streets. Fundamentally the village has changed little since then and it is not hard to imagine that originally there were no doors on the outside to further protect the inhabitants from attack.

The area is steeped in history and you can even find the remains of one of the Roman aqueducts which carried water from Sophia Antipolis to Antibes.
